Happy Turkey Day from Tonic Insight!
So glad Thanksgiving has finally rolled around! We hope you have a fantastic week, filled with scrumptious treats and quality time with your family and friends.
Ever wondered how the numbers breakdown on Thanksgiving Day? Well it’s no surprise that this holiday revolves around one thing, turkey. With 242 million forecast to be raised for 2014 in the US (with 45 million in Minnesota alone) and prices starting from $18 for a 9lb (4kg) turkey. The turkeys themselves generate over $4 billion USD in sales. Then with 856 million pounds (388 million kg) of cranberries and 2.4 billion pounds (1.08 billion kg) of sweet potato consumed, it’s not hard to see how on this particular day the average calorie consumption rockets to 4,500.
With the indulgence reaching an epic scale, Thanksgiving Day has also turned into the single most athletic day in the calendar in recent times. There are now more running races held on Thanksgiving Day than any other, with a 770% increase from 100k to over 870k participants in the last 5 years.
If the running and the eating doesn’t stop the relatives becoming all too much this Thanksgiving, and you need some time-out, feel free to check out our other blog posts.
